AI Use Policy

How UAE CUE Sports uses AI only for visual materials and excludes AI from editorial writing, research, fact-checking, translation and metadata.

Updated

This policy explains the limited role of artificial intelligence and AI-assisted tools at UAE CUE Sports.

AI may be used only to create, prepare or edit images and other visual materials.

AI is not used for article writing or rewriting, research, source summarization, fact-checking, source monitoring, translation, metadata, descriptions, tagging, categorization, biographies or other editorial text.

Current AI Use

AI-assisted tools may be used for:

  • generating illustrations;
  • preparing visual concepts;
  • editing or adapting visual material.

They are not part of the editorial text, research or verification workflow.

Human Editorial Control

Editorial reporting and text are produced and reviewed by people. Human editors are responsible for topic selection, sourcing, verification, context, terminology, publication decisions and corrections.

AI Is Not a Source

AI-generated output is not used as a factual source. Material claims must be supported by appropriate primary, authoritative or otherwise reliable sources.

No Fabricated Evidence

AI must not be used to create fabricated material and present it as real evidence, including invented sources, interviews, quotations, documents, statistics, official statements, competition results, rankings, organizations or partnerships.

No Invented People or Credentials

AI must not be used to create fictional authors, experts, sources or staff and present them as real people.

It must not invent education, qualifications, employment history, awards, memberships, licenses, professional profiles or biographical facts.

AI-Generated Images

AI-generated images may be used where an illustration is appropriate to the article.

Synthetic imagery should not be presented in a way that reasonably causes readers to believe it is documentary evidence of an actual event when it is not.

This is particularly important when an image concerns:

  • a real athlete;
  • a real competition;
  • a real venue;
  • a real incident;
  • a disciplinary matter;
  • an injury;
  • a controversy;
  • a result;
  • an endorsement.

Documentary Accuracy

Where documentary accuracy matters, authentic photography or appropriately sourced real imagery is preferable to synthetic representation.

An AI-generated image should not falsely imply that a real person:

  • attended an event;
  • performed a particular action;
  • used a particular product;
  • endorsed a brand;
  • was involved in an incident;
  • won or lost a competition;
  • made a public statement.

Image Labeling and Context

Where necessary to prevent confusion, the presentation, caption or surrounding context should make clear that an image is illustrative rather than documentary.

The required level of disclosure depends on the likelihood that a reasonable reader could mistake synthetic imagery for a factual photograph.

Real People and Sensitive Events

Extra caution should be used when AI-generated imagery concerns identifiable real people or sensitive events.

Synthetic imagery should not create false evidence of misconduct, criminal activity, injury, disciplinary action, private behavior or other potentially damaging events.

Sports Results and Rankings

AI is not used to research, generate or verify sports results, scores, rankings or qualification positions. Those facts are checked against appropriate sporting sources.

Quotes and Interviews

AI is not used to create quotations or interviews. Published quotations must come from authentic source material.

AI and Fact-Checking

AI is not used for fact-checking, research, source summarization or source monitoring. Verification remains a human editorial process under the Fact-Checking Policy.

AI and Editorial Decisions

AI does not select topics, determine rankings or reviews, decide corrections or make publication decisions.

AI and Reviews

AI is not used to write or rewrite reviews, research products or create descriptions presented as editorial experience. Reviews must accurately distinguish direct experience, sourced facts and editorial assessment.

AI and Corrections

If an AI-assisted image or visual presentation is materially misleading, it may be corrected, relabeled, replaced or removed.

Policy Changes

If the use of AI-assisted visual tools changes materially, this policy may be updated. AI remains outside the editorial writing, research, fact-checking, translation and metadata workflows described above.
