Omar Rahman was born in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, in 1984 and grew up at a time when the country's sporting landscape was expanding well beyond its established football and cricket audiences. His interest in journalism developed during his school years through a mix of local sports coverage, international competition and an increasing curiosity about the smaller sporting communities that rarely received consistent media attention. In 2002, he entered the College of Communication at the University of Sharjah, where he studied journalism, reporting, media writing, news production and the fundamentals of print and broadcast communication. He completed his undergraduate studies in 2006, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a focus on print journalism, an academic foundation that shaped his preference for clear sourcing, accurate reporting and practical explanations rather than promotional sports coverage.

After university, Rahman began working in a regional English-language newsroom, initially covering a broad mix of local sport, community events, interviews and short-form news assignments. The work gave him experience with the everyday mechanics of reporting: verifying names and results, confirming schedules, working with event organisers, interviewing participants and turning specialist information into stories that could be understood by readers without extensive background knowledge. He later moved into sports-focused editorial and communications work in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, contributing to projects connected with sporting venues, tournament organisers, local events and independent publishing teams. These roles brought him into closer contact with athletes, coaches, club operators and competition staff, giving him a perspective on sport that extended beyond results and press releases.

Cue sports gradually became the strongest area of his reporting. Through regular exposure to snooker, pool and billiards events, Rahman developed a particular interest in tournament structures, qualification pathways, rankings, player development, coaching, rules and equipment. He became equally interested in the participation side of the sport: where people can play, how local competitions work, what newcomers need to know before entering a tournament and how recreational players move toward more competitive environments. His work increasingly focused on explaining the details that experienced players often take for granted but which can be confusing for newcomers — the difference between formats, how ranking points work, why tournament conditions matter and how rules affect the way a match is actually played.

At UAE CUE Sports, Rahman now covers snooker, pool and billiards across the Emirates, including tournaments, rankings, results, rules, coaching, equipment, venues, player profiles and competitive pathways. His coverage also includes developments around Q Tour Middle East and the broader regional cue-sports ecosystem. He approaches the subject from both the player's and the spectator's perspective, with particular attention to details that can materially change how a reader understands a competition or sporting decision. His editorial method is straightforward: verify the names, dates, scores and formats first, separate fact from interpretation, explain specialist terminology without unnecessary jargon and give readers enough context to understand not only what happened, but why it matters and what comes next.
