Editorial Policy

Editorial standards for UAE CUE Sports, including sourcing, accuracy, fairness, headlines, rankings, reviews, commercial separation and corrections.

Updated

UAE CUE Sports publishes editorial coverage of cue sports and the wider sporting landscape of the United Arab Emirates. This policy explains the standards used to select, research, review and publish editorial material.

Our goal is not simply to repeat available information. We aim to identify what matters, establish an appropriate factual basis, provide relevant context and help readers understand what a development means.

Editorial decisions are based on relevance, available evidence, source quality and reader value.

Editorial Scope

Our specialist foundation is cue sports, including snooker, pool and billiards.

Coverage may include:

  • players;
  • competitions;
  • results;
  • rankings;
  • qualification pathways;
  • governing bodies;
  • rules;
  • venues;
  • academies;
  • coaching;
  • equipment;
  • participation.

International cue-sports developments may be covered when they are relevant to our readers.

Wider coverage may include UAE football, cricket, tennis, golf, motorsport, padel, basketball, sporting events, venues, infrastructure, participation, technology and sports business.

For sports outside our specialist cue-sports vertical, UAE CUE Sports generally looks for a meaningful connection to the United Arab Emirates.

Types of Editorial Content

UAE CUE Sports may publish:

  • news reports;
  • explainers;
  • analysis;
  • practical guides;
  • interviews;
  • expert commentary;
  • rankings and results;
  • reviews and comparisons;
  • data-based articles;
  • opinion where clearly identified as such.

Different types of content require different editorial treatment. A reported result, an analysis article and an editorial review should not be presented as though they are the same type of material.

Topic Selection

Editorial topics may be selected according to:

  • relevance to cue sports or UAE sport;
  • reader usefulness;
  • public or sporting interest;
  • timeliness;
  • availability of credible sources;
  • importance to players, fans or participants;
  • need for clarification of a complex subject;
  • practical value to readers.

Search interest or commercial value alone is not sufficient reason to publish a subject that falls outside our editorial scope.

Source Standards

UAE CUE Sports prefers sources that are directly relevant to the claim being made.

Where reasonably available, primary and authoritative sources are preferred.

These may include:

  • sports governing bodies;
  • national and international federations;
  • official competition systems;
  • official rankings, results and schedules;
  • event organizers;
  • clubs and teams;
  • venues and academies;
  • public documents and records;
  • product documentation;
  • direct statements;
  • on-the-record interviews;
  • recognized sports data providers.

Reputable secondary media may be used for context, additional confirmation or information that cannot reasonably be obtained directly from a primary source.

Repetition of the same claim by multiple websites does not automatically make that claim reliable.

Named and Unnamed Sources

Named and on-the-record sources are preferred.

UAE CUE Sports rarely uses unnamed or anonymous sources.

An unnamed source may be considered when the information is significant, the source is credibly positioned to know it, there is a legitimate reason for confidentiality and the information cannot reasonably be obtained on the record.

The identity of a significant confidential source should be known to the relevant editor or editorial decision-maker.

Anonymous sourcing should not be used primarily to publish unsupported personal attacks, speculation or reputational allegations.

Accuracy

Material facts should be checked against sources appropriate to their importance.

Depending on the article, this may include checking:

  • names;
  • roles and titles;
  • dates;
  • locations;
  • scores;
  • rankings;
  • statistics;
  • competition formats;
  • qualification conditions;
  • quotes;
  • venue details;
  • pricing or availability where relevant.

When information is uncertain, incomplete or disputed, articles should reflect that uncertainty rather than present a stronger conclusion than the evidence supports.

Fairness and Context

Sources should not be knowingly misrepresented or quoted in a way that materially changes their intended meaning.

When serious allegations or significant criticism concern an identifiable person or organization, UAE CUE Sports should consider seeking a relevant response where practical and appropriate.

Fairness does not require giving identical weight to claims with very different levels of evidence.

Headlines, Summaries and Captions

Headlines should accurately reflect the underlying article.

Headlines, article summaries, image captions and promotional descriptions should not create certainty that is absent from the reporting or imply that an allegation has been proven when it has not.

Sport-Specific Terminology

Technical terminology is part of factual accuracy.

UAE CUE Sports distinguishes between snooker, pool and billiards and does not treat these disciplines as interchangeable.

Competition units, scoring systems, rules, ranking structures and terminology should match the sport being covered.

For example, a snooker match is normally described in frames, while pool formats commonly use racks.

Statistics and Data

Statistics should be sourced and placed in appropriate context where their origin is material to understanding the claim.

Estimates should not be presented as confirmed measurements.

Charts, tables and rankings should not manipulate scales, labels or omitted information in a way that creates a materially misleading impression.

Official Rankings and Editorial Rankings

UAE CUE Sports may report official sports rankings, standings and results produced by governing bodies, tours, federations and competition organizers.

We may also create independent editorial rankings, comparisons and "best" or "top" articles.

These should be clearly distinguished.

Where UAE CUE Sports creates a ranking, the article should provide sufficient information about the criteria or methodology for readers to understand the basis of the ordering.

Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.

Reviews and Recommendations

Reviews should distinguish objective information from editorial judgment.

Depending on the subject, objective information may include specifications, facilities, location, pricing, availability or published services.

Editorial conclusions may consider relevance, value, quality, usability, availability and suitability for the intended audience.

Advertisers cannot purchase a favorable independent review or recommendation.

Advertising and Editorial Independence

UAE CUE Sports currently displays advertising, including Google AdSense.

Advertising relationships do not control independent editorial decisions.

An advertiser cannot purchase:

  • favorable independent coverage;
  • a positive editorial review;
  • a higher editorial ranking position;
  • removal of legitimate criticism;
  • control over unrelated editorial decisions.

Sponsored Content

UAE CUE Sports does not currently offer sponsored content as a regular commercial publishing format.

If sponsored or partner content is introduced in the future, it must be clearly labeled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial work.

Sponsored relationships would not provide control over independent coverage outside the commercial material.

Affiliate Relationships

UAE CUE Sports does not currently operate a regular affiliate-link program.

If affiliate relationships are introduced in the future, relevant commercial relationships should be disclosed and must not control independent editorial conclusions.

Press Releases and Submitted Material

Companies, sports organizations, federations, clubs, venues, event organizers and other sources may submit editorial information without purchasing advertising.

Submission does not guarantee publication.

Press releases are treated as source material rather than automatically as independently verified reporting.

Promotional claims contained in submitted material may require attribution or additional verification.

Sensitive Topics

UAE CUE Sports is primarily a sports publication and is not a medical, legal or financial advisory service.

Sports reporting can nevertheless involve injuries, safety issues, disciplinary matters, legal disputes, financial claims or reputational allegations.

Such subjects require additional care with sourcing, attribution and wording.

Images and AI-Assisted Material

Images should not materially mislead readers about a real person, venue, competition or event.

UAE CUE Sports uses AI-assisted tools only for creating, preparing or editing images and other visual materials. AI is not used for editorial writing or rewriting, research, fact-checking, translation, metadata, descriptions, tagging, categorization or biographies.

Synthetic imagery should be clearly understood as illustrative when there is a reasonable risk that a reader could mistake it for documentary photography.

Corrections and Updates

Material factual errors should be corrected when identified.

A clarification may be added where wording requires additional context, and an update may be made when relevant information changes after publication.

Minor grammar, punctuation, spelling or formatting changes may be made without a separate correction note when they do not materially alter meaning.

Suspected errors should be sent to: corrections@uaecuesports.com.
