Fact-Checking Policy

How UAE CUE Sports checks scores, rankings, quotes, statistics, schedules and other material facts using appropriate primary and authoritative sources.

Updated

UAE CUE Sports aims to verify material factual claims before publication using sources appropriate to the subject, importance and sensitivity of the information.

Fact-checking is not a single identical process for every article. A straightforward tournament result, an equipment comparison and a sensitive allegation may require different levels and types of verification.

We do not promise that every published article will always be free from error. Our responsibility is to use a reasonable verification process and correct material factual mistakes when they are identified.

What We Verify

Depending on the article, fact-checking may include:

  • names and spellings;
  • professional roles and titles;
  • dates;
  • locations;
  • scores and results;
  • rankings and standings;
  • competition formats;
  • qualification rules;
  • tournament schedules;
  • quotations;
  • statistics;
  • venue information;
  • product specifications;
  • prices and availability where relevant;
  • organizational relationships;
  • official decisions;
  • claims about athletes, teams or organizations.

Source Hierarchy

UAE CUE Sports generally prefers primary or authoritative sources when they are reasonably available.

Depending on the subject, these may include:

  • governing bodies;
  • sports federations;
  • official tournament systems;
  • official rankings and results;
  • event organizers;
  • clubs and teams;
  • venues and academies;
  • public documents;
  • official company information;
  • product documentation;
  • direct statements;
  • on-the-record interviews;
  • recognized data providers.

Reputable secondary sources may be used for additional confirmation or context, especially when primary information is unavailable or incomplete.

Primary Sources Are Not Automatically Neutral

An official source can establish important facts, but it may also represent the position of the organization issuing the statement.

Press releases, company statements and promotional material may therefore require attribution or additional verification, particularly when they contain claims about performance, popularity, market position or future outcomes.

Cue Sports Verification

For cue sports, verification may involve official information from the relevant tour, governing body, federation or tournament organizer.

Depending on the competition, relevant sources may include official information from World Snooker Tour, WPBSA, IBSF, Q Tour and relevant national or regional federations and organizers.

Terminology should also be checked carefully. Snooker, pool and billiards have different rules, competition structures and ranking systems.

Results, Scores and Rankings

Official competition results should be checked against an official results system, governing body, organizer or other authoritative competition record where reasonably available.

Rankings should be attributed to the organization responsible for the ranking system.

If UAE CUE Sports creates an independent editorial ranking, it should not be presented as though it were an official sports ranking.

Names, Dates and Titles

Names, dates and professional titles can appear simple but may materially affect accuracy.

Where relevant, these details should be checked against an official profile, organization page, competition record, direct statement or another suitable source.

Quotes and Interviews

Direct quotations should accurately represent what the source said.

Quotes should not be edited in a way that materially changes meaning.

Paraphrases should reflect the substance of the source's statement rather than introduce a stronger conclusion than the source provided.

Statistics and Numerical Claims

Statistics should be checked against the underlying source where practical.

Important numerical claims should distinguish between confirmed data, estimates, projections and promotional claims.

A statistic should not be presented without material context if doing so would create a misleading impression.

Prices and Commercial Information

Prices, fees, booking conditions, product availability and venue services can change quickly.

Where these details are important to an article, UAE CUE Sports may check an official pricing page, product page, venue information or other direct source.

Readers should verify important current prices and conditions before making a purchase or booking decision.

Social Media

Social-media posts may provide leads, statements or direct evidence that a person or organization made a particular public announcement.

Social-media repetition alone does not establish that an underlying factual claim is correct.

Where possible, significant claims discovered through social media should be checked against additional evidence or an authoritative source.

Unnamed Sources

UAE CUE Sports rarely uses anonymous or unnamed sources.

When unnamed sourcing is considered, the relevant editor should know the source's identity, understand why the source is positioned to know the information and evaluate the reason confidentiality is requested.

Sensitive unnamed-source claims should be corroborated wherever reasonably possible.

Single-source anonymous allegations involving serious misconduct or significant reputational harm are generally avoided without additional evidence.

Conflicting Information

Sometimes credible sources provide different versions of the same event or fact.

Where the conflict cannot immediately be resolved, the article should avoid presenting a disputed claim as settled fact.

Relevant uncertainty, competing statements or limitations may be explained to readers.

Sensitive Claims

Sports reporting can involve disciplinary proceedings, legal disputes, athlete safety, injuries, financial issues, allegations of misconduct or other reputationally sensitive matters.

These claims require additional care with:

  • source quality;
  • corroboration;
  • attribution;
  • wording;
  • right of response where appropriate;
  • distinguishing allegations from established facts.

Right of Response

When a serious factual allegation concerns an identifiable person or organization, UAE CUE Sports should consider seeking a response before publication where practical and appropriate.

Failure to respond does not itself prove that an allegation is correct.

Reviews and Comparisons

Fact-checking a review includes separating objective characteristics from editorial judgment.

Specifications, published prices, facilities, locations or services should be checked where relevant.

Subjective judgments such as suitability or overall value should be presented as editorial assessments rather than objective facts.

AI and Fact-Checking

AI is not used by UAE CUE Sports for research, source summarization, fact-checking or source monitoring.

Verification relies on human editorial review and appropriate sources such as governing bodies, federations, competition records, organizers, public documents, direct statements and recognized data providers.

AI-assisted tools may be used for images and other visual materials, but visual generation is separate from the factual verification process.

Updates After Publication

Information can change after publication.

Tournament draws may change, rankings may be updated, venues may revise schedules, products may change and organizations may issue new information.

UAE CUE Sports may update published material when new information materially improves its accuracy or usefulness.

Corrections

If a published factual error is identified, UAE CUE Sports may correct the article according to its Corrections Policy.

A clarification may be used when additional context is required, while an update may be used for relevant new information that emerged after publication.

Report a Possible Error

Suspected factual errors should be sent to:

corrections@uaecuesports.com

Please include:

  • the article URL;
  • the specific statement in question;
  • an explanation of the suspected error;
