Rankings and Reviews Methodology

Rankings Methodology

Methodology for UAE CUE Sports rankings, reviews and comparisons, including evaluation criteria and the difference between official and editorial rankings.

Updated

UAE CUE Sports publishes rankings, comparisons and reviews to help readers understand cue sports and the wider sporting landscape of the United Arab Emirates.

This page explains how we select, evaluate and update ranked or reviewed items and how we distinguish official sporting classifications from independent editorial assessments.

What We Rank or Review

UAE CUE Sports may publish or report:

  • official sports rankings and standings;
  • cue-sports player rankings;
  • tournament and qualification-related rankings;
  • competition results and tables;
  • player-performance comparisons;
  • venue reviews and comparisons;
  • academy comparisons;
  • coaching-related comparisons where sufficient information exists;
  • sports equipment reviews and comparisons;
  • practical comparisons of sports facilities or services;
  • editorial "best" and "top" lists;
  • data-based rankings created from identified sources.

Official Rankings vs. UAE CUE Sports Rankings

Official rankings are classifications issued by the governing body, federation, tour, league or competition responsible for the relevant ranking system.

When UAE CUE Sports reports an official ranking, we do not independently determine the official order.

Our role may include explaining:

  • the current ranking;
  • movement in the standings;
  • qualification implications;
  • competition context;
  • how the ranking system works.

Editorial rankings are different. They are created by UAE CUE Sports according to criteria selected for the particular comparison.

Readers should be able to understand whether a ranking is official or editorial.

Data Sources

Sources vary depending on the subject.

UAE CUE Sports gives preference to authoritative or primary information where reasonably available.

Sources may include:

  • official governing bodies;
  • sports federations;
  • official tournament systems;
  • official rankings;
  • competition records;
  • official results and schedules;
  • clubs and teams;
  • venue and academy information;
  • official company information;
  • product documentation;
  • manufacturer specifications;
  • published pricing information;
  • public records and documents;
  • recognized sports data providers;
  • direct statements;
  • expert input;
  • original editorial research;
  • reputable secondary media where useful.

Cue Sports Data

For cue sports, relevant sources may include official information from the organization responsible for the competition or ranking.

Depending on the subject, this may include official information from World Snooker Tour, WPBSA, IBSF, Q Tour and relevant national or regional federations and tournament organizers.

Evaluation Criteria

Not every criterion applies to every review or ranking.

Depending on the subject, evaluation may consider:

  • relevance to the intended reader;
  • quality and completeness of information;
  • transparency;
  • pricing and value;
  • features or specifications;
  • facilities;
  • availability;
  • location and accessibility;
  • sporting relevance;
  • competition level;
  • coaching or development opportunities;
  • safety or compliance where relevant;
  • user experience where reasonably assessable;
  • reputation supported by evidence;
  • data quality;
  • how recently information has been updated.

Venue Reviews

Venue comparisons may consider practical factors such as:

  • location;
  • facilities;
  • sports available;
  • playing environment;
  • published prices;
  • booking information;
  • accessibility;
  • training or coaching availability.

Objective information should be distinguished from editorial judgment.

For example, the number of tables may be a factual characteristic, while whether a venue is particularly suitable for competitive players may involve editorial assessment.

Academy and Coaching Comparisons

Academy or coaching comparisons may consider:

  • sports offered;
  • location;
  • published program information;
  • coaching structure;
  • participation pathways;
  • availability;
  • published pricing where available;
  • suitability for the intended audience.

Availability, fees and coaching arrangements may change, so readers should verify important current details directly.

Equipment Reviews

Equipment reviews may consider:

  • product specifications;
  • construction;
  • intended use;
  • features;
  • availability;
  • price;
  • value;
  • suitability for different types of players.

Manufacturer claims should be distinguished from independent editorial assessment.

UAE CUE Sports should not imply direct product testing where no direct testing occurred.

How Items Are Selected

Inclusion in an editorial comparison may depend on:

  • relevance;
  • availability;
  • sufficient reliable information;
  • significance within the category;
  • whether inclusion helps readers understand meaningful options.

UAE CUE Sports does not necessarily review every available product, venue, academy or service.

Scoring

Not all rankings use a numerical score.

Some rankings are ordered by editorial assessment based on disclosed criteria.

Where a numerical system is used, the accompanying article or methodology should explain the principal scoring criteria and how readers should interpret the score.

Ordering Without Scores

Where no numerical score is used, ordering may reflect the relative strength of relevant factors and the specific purpose of the comparison.

Different ranking types may use different criteria because a sports venue, piece of equipment and player-performance table measure fundamentally different things.

"Best" and "Top" Lists

Words such as "best" and "top" represent an editorial conclusion when used in independent UAE CUE Sports comparisons.

Such conclusions should have an identifiable basis rather than function as unsupported promotional claims.

The best choice may depend on the reader.

For example, an option suitable for an experienced competitive player may not be the most appropriate choice for a beginner, family or casual participant.

Commercial Relationships

Commercial relationships do not determine independent editorial rankings.

UAE CUE Sports does not currently sell ranking positions or paid enhanced profiles within independent editorial rankings.

Advertisers cannot purchase:

  • a higher ranking position;
  • a favorable review score;
  • a positive independent recommendation;
  • removal of legitimate criticism;
  • an editorial conclusion presented as independent.

Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.

Sponsored Visibility

UAE CUE Sports does not currently offer sponsored content as a regular commercial format.

If commercial featured placements or sponsored visibility are introduced in the future, they should be clearly distinguishable from independent rankings.

Affiliate Links

UAE CUE Sports does not currently operate a regular affiliate-link program.

If affiliate links are introduced in the future, relevant commercial relationships should be disclosed and should not determine editorial conclusions.

Advertisers and Reviews

A business may advertise on UAE CUE Sports and also be independently reviewed or covered.

Advertising does not entitle a business to approve, suppress or rewrite an independent editorial review.

Updates

Rankings and reviews may change as new information becomes available.

Reasons for an update may include:

  • new competition results;
  • revised official rankings;
  • qualification changes;
  • new products;
  • discontinued products;
  • price changes;
  • venue changes;
  • academy or coaching changes;
  • new data;
  • corrections;
  • methodology changes where justified.

Corrections

Material factual errors in a ranking, review or comparison may be corrected under the UAE CUE Sports Corrections Policy.

A factual correction may lead to reconsideration of an editorial ranking if it materially changes the basis of the assessment.

Limitations

Rankings and reviews provide a structured comparison, but they have limitations.

Readers should understand that:

  • available information may be incomplete;
  • rankings can change;
  • prices can change;
  • products can be updated or discontinued;
  • venues can change facilities or opening conditions;
  • academies can change programs and fees;
  • availability may differ by location;
  • editorial assessments involve judgment;
  • individual needs may differ from general criteria.

Reader Verification

Readers should verify important current details directly with the relevant governing body, organizer, venue, academy, manufacturer, retailer or service provider before making a significant decision.

Methodology Transparency

The level of methodological detail should reflect the complexity and importance of the ranking.

Significant original rankings or recurring comparison projects should explain enough of their criteria and sources for readers to understand how the result was reached.
