Sharjah City is the capital and principal urban centre of the Emirate of Sharjah. Located on the Persian Gulf beside Dubai's metropolitan edge, the city includes a dense network of residential, commercial, waterfront, industrial and institutional districts. Sharjah Creek, Khalid Lagoon and the coastal urban corridor are central features of its setting. The city is distinct from the wider emirate, which also includes inland central-region towns and separate east-coast territories on the Gulf of Oman.
