The AFC medical committee has backed Hanoi for its 2027 congress and endorsed a South Korean centre for excellence. Its player-safety guidance also awaits executive approval.

At the committee's sixth meeting in Kuala Lumpur, members discussed sports medicine and sports science. Player safety was also on the agenda. Dr Mustafa Al Hashmi, chairman of the UAE Football Association's medical committee and an AFC committee member, took part.

The committee recommended Hanoi as host of its 2027 medical congress. It also endorsed the Sejong Sports Medicine and Performance Centre in the Republic of Korea as an AFC medical centre of excellence. The AFC executive committee must ratify both decisions.

Sejong would be the first centre in South Korea to receive the designation.

For UAE football, Al Hashmi's participation brought the national association's medical leadership into the continental discussion. A separate recent development in UAE sports governance was the Paralympic board appointment.

The committee also agreed to form an expert advisory group on extreme conditions. The group will review protocols for safe participation during high temperatures. Its work will also cover air pollution and difficult weather.

Following a proposal from the AFC's technical committee, the medical committee adopted guidance on head impacts and safety in children's football. The guidance requires AFC executive committee approval before taking effect.
