The 2026 National Clubs Billiards and Snooker Championship in carom opened on the afternoon of 1 October at Can Tho's Centre for Physical Education and Sports Training and Competition. Thanh Nien reports that 451 athletes are taking part, alongside team representatives. The tournament runs through 10 October.
Can Tho is hosting the national event for the first time. Local sports authorities say it is part of the annual national competition calendar. The tournament also gives players a chance to compete and gain experience.
The championship features four events: men's 3-cushion carom, men's 1-cushion, women's 3-cushion and men's under-22 3-cushion. Matches use a playoff format, with two bronze medals awarded.
Clubs from across Vietnam take part
Teams from 13 provinces and cities are represented, Thanh Nien reports. They include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hue, An Giang, Bac Ninh, Dong Nai, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh Long and Can Tho.
Vietnam's Ministry of Physical Education and Sports is organising the championship with Can Tho's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Billiards and Snooker Federation and the Southern Television Centre. A recent championship report covered Szewczyk's second World 10-ball title in Vietnam.
Competition and development in focus
Lam Thanh Dung, deputy director of Can Tho's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the tournament is part of the annual national competition system. He said it supports the local sports movement and player training in the region. Organisers say the event gives players a place to compete and build experience. They also expect lively matches for spectators. No draw, results or schedule details have been provided.
Can Tho established its city Billiards & Snooker Federation on 30 September for the 2026-2031 term. Seventy delegates attended the founding meeting, which elected Huynh Anh Hung as federation president.
The event brings athletes and team representatives from across Vietnam together for a national club competition. Its value lies in the chance to compete and gain experience. That is the focus.
